The main bag itself is great. Easy to pack and comfortable to wear. However, the daypack is poorly designed. The zipper that is used to attach the daypack to the main bag is not at the back of the daypack, like it should be. Rather the zipper is placed about 2 inches from the back seam of the daypack. Which means that is you pack the daypack full to its 20 L capacity, it will not attach to the main pack. I consider this a major design flaw and would not have bought the bag, if I had know this.

On my recent trip through Central Europe, the backpack, purchased in June of 2008, performed well. Yet after I had been using the small detachable backpack separately in driving rain, I found to my surprise a half a centimeter layer of water inside on the bottom, making wet everything inside (fortunately I had put most things, such as my camera, in ziploc bags). I have not been able to find out what had leaked. Based on my thirty years of trekking experience, I would have expected a better performance.

I'm not a big complainer, and I think that because this bag is SO BIG, it's almost excusable. Still, you should know that on my very first trip with the bag, the shoulder straps tore off. And, even though I'm a pretty active young person, a 23 year old athlete even, my back was also killing me by the end of the month and a half...I think the best idea would be to simply underpack with a smaller bag.

The bag spent 2 months in Africa through dust, dirt, grime, it was sat on, tossed, pushed, pulled - and it still looks like new! Absolutely excellent bag. Very large, but not cumbersome. Really like that the straps can be zipped up and put away when checking the bag onto an airplane.
